Today would have been the first day of the 2020 Minnesota State Fair. While this day is bittersweet, and we wish we could be celebrating the Great Minnesota Get-Together in person, we would be remiss to just let these 12 days pass by.
The Minnesota State Fair: At-Home Edition starts now.
The Fine Arts Exhibition of Minnesota is now live! See the impressive work of talented Minnesotans from the comfort of your couch! Chosen from more than 1,700 pieces submitted virtually this summer, this art is now hanging in the Fine Arts Center.

The historic Cattle Barn was completed in 1920. Designed by architect Clarence H. Johnston, the massive brick structure covers 117,450 square feet with sufficient housing for 1,000 head of cattle. It was originally constructed with a 10-foot-high basement, along with a mezzanine level that allowed for additional exhibit space, which included through the years auto shows, national dairy shows, and the State Fair’s dairy department.
The structure has changed several times in its 100 years, most notably serving in World War II along with the rest of the livestock complex as home for the A.O. Smith Corporation that manufactured military aircraft propellers from 1943-1945. With this, the mezzanine level was permanently removed. After the war, the barn was reconverted to welcome back cattle in 1947.
To accompany the Cattle Barn, a 21,000-square-foot corrugated steel Cattle Annex, formerly called the Beef Barn, was built in 1970. The most recent addition is the Moo Booth exhibit, which was rebuilt in 2009 to showcase beef and dairy cattle’s role in the agricultural process from farm to table.
