Massive Minnesota Monarch

Pull a rope to flap the wings on our giant monarch butterfly. Minnesota’s state butterfly, the monarch, is one of the most recognizable species in North America. As an insect pollinator, its well-being depends on a healthy habitat, which includes clean water, clean air and a healthy climate. Some pollinator species are now found in fewer places, or in fewer numbers than they used to be. This butterfly is an ambassador for the plight of pollinators in our state and the many things we can do to protect them. Pollinators sustain and enhance our economy, maintain natural ecosystems, and contribute to climate resiliency. When we protect pollinators, we protect human health and the Minnesota we love. This MPCA exhibit is in partnership with the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board and the Interagency Pollinator Protection Team.
