Metro Transit and Express Buses

State Fair Express Bus services feature free parking and a direct bus ride to the fairgrounds for a small fee from farther-out suburbs around the Twin Cities. Please note that face coverings are required on all buses.

Express Buses provided by Metro Transit, Minnesota Valley Transit Authority and SouthWest Transit drop off and pick up at the Transit Hub located at Gate #16 on the west end of the fairgrounds. See a State Fair map.

NOTE: Grandstand shows typically end between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. followed by fireworks. On Labor Day, the Grandstand show will end at approximately 6:30 p.m., and fireworks will be at 9 p.m.

Metro Transit State Fair Express Bus Service

Park free and ride a bus for a small fee from several locations around the Twin Cities. For information on locations, schedules, how to conveniently buy bus tickets and more, check out Metro Transit. (Please note that the number of State Fair Express Bus locations is limited this year due to a shortage of bus drivers, and some previous years’ locations are not available due to construction or property development.)

Minnesota Valley Transit Authority Express Bus Service

SouthWest Transit Express Bus Service

SouthWest Transit provides direct bus service each day of the State Fair from locations in Chanhassen, Chaska and Eden Prairie. For more information on locations, schedules, bus ride pricing, how to buy tickets and more, check out SouthWest Transit.

Metro Transit Regular Bus Service

Several regular Metro Transit bus routes border the fairgrounds and have stops near an entrance gate:

  • Route 3 travels on Como Avenue between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul.
  • Route 61 travels from both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul and drops off on Larpenteur Avenue, just north of the fairgrounds.
  • On Snelling Avenue, the A Line bus travels between Rosedale and the 46th Street Station; Route 84 travels between Midway Parkway and Shepard Road.
  • Metro Green Line: To get to the State Fairgrounds via the METRO Green Line, board the light rail at one of 23 stations between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul. Get off the train at the Snelling Avenue Station. At Snelling and University avenues, board either the northbound Metro Transit A Line bus, or the Route 84 bus on Snelling Avenue and Spruce Tree Drive, which will take you to the fairgrounds.
