Aug. 27 – Labor Day, Sept. 7, 2026
35 Days 1 Hours 17 Mins
Presented by the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, The Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources, the University of Minnesota Extension, and the Smithsonian Do-it-Yourself Exhibit
Soils are crucial to our everyday lives, storing carbon, filtering water, growing plants, and so much more. Explore Minnesota soils and discover a whole new world beneath your feet through an interactive exhibit. Come see soil from the perspective of a microorganism. We will be featuring panels from the “Temporarily Not Soil” ice shanty as well as living root boxes to showcase soil organisms and root structure. With the panels, visitors will learn about the soil organisms below ground, and soil hydrometers: soil particle size (texture) and the diversity of soil color.
