CAAM Chinese Dance Theater (CAAM CDT) is a division of the Chinese American Association of Minnesota, the oldest and largest Chinese American community organization in Minnesota. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit performing arts and dance academy, CAAM CDT is dedicated to preserving, celebrating and sharing Chinese cultural heritage through dance.
Founded in 1992, CAAM CDT is the oldest Chinese dance company in the Midwest and has maintained stable leadership since its inception. The company is currently under the artistic direction of Lili Teng, an internationally recognized choreographer and teacher.
Chinese dance combines influences from traditional Chinese opera, martial arts, ballet and the rich traditions of more than 56 ethnic groups in China. Dancers perform both ethnic/folk and classical/traditional Chinese dance, often featuring vibrant costumes and props such as fans, ribbons, swords, umbrellas and long sleeves.
Through the universal language of dance, CAAM CDT enriches the cultural life of Minnesotans while fostering appreciation for Chinese arts and traditions. These pop-up performances are part of the State Fair's Arts A'Fair program.
