The Electric Light (no) Overture was originally formed to compete in the annual Cover Song Contest at famed Minneapolis rock club First Avenue in January 2005. Dressed in giant afro wigs and sporting oversized sunglasses, the six band members pay tribute to the original ELO band by playing their recognizable hits of the 1970s like “Don’t Bring Me Down” and “Livin’ Thing.” E.L.nO was hailed in the July 2008 edition of Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine as “The most popular tribute band among Twin Cities hipsters.”
