The Blue Ribbon Bargain Book
The kickoff to state fair season. I get the book in July and read the coupons over and over, gazing at those little maps on the back, I visualize myself bellying up to the white counters of the concession stands, coming away with foot long corn dogs and baskets of buy-one-get-one free fried delights. I plan Opening Thursday like it was Normandy with this thing.

Food Only At The Fair
Though trial and error I've found you CAN re-create a peanut butter hot dog (served at the Blue Moon Diner), but you just can't replicate those french fries in the red and yellow striped buckets, Sweet Martha's, Tiny Tims, a skewer of Veggie Fries, Macaroni and Cheese on a Stick, Ruben dawgs, impaled pork chops, delicious knishes, or softer-than-snow Hawaiian Shaved Ice. I'd also argue that Coke is sweeter here than anywhere else and that all food tastes better when served in a checkered paper basket with a little white plastic fork.

A Fair Sized Stuffed Animal
Nothing like hugging warm synthetic fur on a breezy summer night. As you leave the the Midway, everyone can see what a big winner you are. Without a six-foot neon blue gorilla, how else would they know?

The Fireworks
It's when all fair goers are united -whether we're watching from the Grandstand show or a bench on Dan Patch, a spinning Tilt-a-Whirl, the line for late-night mini-donuts, or the window of the Sky Ride's gondola - the nightly fireworks bring us together, flood us with state fair memories of years gone by, and remind us that it's time to say good bye until next year.

Pizza Wagon
Thin, hot pizza every time. Only cheese or pepperoni to pick from. Always fresh. Gotta have it every time.
-
Honey Ice Cream
The best ice cream from the horticulture building. I can never choose from vanilla or chocolate fudge, must have both.
-
Deep Fried Fruit
Tastes just like pie! This is a new fave.
-
Tacos
Love the tacos from the stand on the SW corner on the outside corner of the food building. This is a must for every visit too. It's the only taco stand I have found that has hard shell tacos.
