You smell it a block away and it just pulls you in...is anything as uniquely State-Fair-esque as that oddly satisfying aroma of hundreds of burned corn husks!
Get them with some sweet butter and Fried Green Tomatoes outside the Food Building. Best unexpected find I ever had at the fair...I look forward to them every year.
Corn Dogs (duh)
Pronto Pups are great, but can you get one a foot and a half long? Nope--need a good ol' fashioned corn dog!!
Hang out at the Bandshell, Carousel Park, the Merch Mart or anywhere else where people are on microphones and you're bound to hear one or twelve. What's more Minnesotan than a corny sense of humor?

Creative Activities Building
Creative Activities contains the best of the state fair. Woodworking, quilting, furniture-making, miniatures, needle-point, baking. Should I continue? Or should I just remind you of the sock monkey dress? I think my work here is done.
Home of the best deal at the fair - the cider freeze. The Ag/Hort building also houses floral and garden displays, and the always surprising seed art exhibit. Who will be the unlucky political target this year?
The Dairy Building f/k/a Empire Commons
I mean, the butter heads, yes. But the soft-serve twist cone is the real star of the show here.
From raptor shows to the fish tank, this one is a real gem. The miniature prairie diorama is a highlight.

Deep Fried Cheese Curds
Only the booth inside the food building. Great to share with friends.
Always enjoy one bite from a friend.
Andy's Grill Burgers
Not so much for the food as for the show. Always fun except they don't let me dance along.
Cotton Candy (pink on a paper stick)
Because you're never to old for the sweet sugar deliciousness.
