Footlongs and Mini Donuts by Heather Hansen Mead
Excellent source of yummy goodness complete with mustard, ketchup, and onions.
Fried batter smothered in sugar, sugar, and more sugar. Very hot right off the press but goes good with ice cold milk.
A must-have for accompanying mini donuts or sweet martha's cookies. Drink lots. There's more.
Corn on the Cob
I always buy two and smother them in butter, salt, and a little sprinkle of pepper.
For years and years by Carrie
Tom Thumb mini donuts
We only get them from the stand by the Ye' old mill. First stop for the family, then to to the visitors center to get the pin for the year.
Creative Activities Building
Hours upon hours of looking at cross stitch work, and old cookies with flies. Just like grandma's.
Ye' Old Mill
In the heat of the day it's the perfect escape from the heat! Better than the water rides... you won't leave with a wet seat!
University of MN day...
Every year we had to go on this day to see the U of MN parade.
Four "Must-Have" Fair Eats by Larry Ellis Reed
Hamline UMC Dining Hall's ham loaf
Old school church dining hall dining at its finest--a little greasy, but served with love and affection (and a somewhat sweetish sauce on top).
Sweet Martha's chocolate chip cookies
Especially when you're able to get a cup of malted milk (I prefer vanilla) to dip them in; what a treat!
Italian ice cream--and with plenty of interesting flavours to try, even in a large dish!
Battered cheese curds
Just because--need I say more?
Four amazing must-haves at the Fair! by Kristin
Cream cheese-filled deep fried pickles
Go for the "gourmet" or whatever they're called. They're deep-fried pickle chips filled with cream cheese. I don't even like dill pickles, and I can't get enough of these! Try them with a splash of hot sauce and dipped in the ranch dipping sauce.
Alligator bites with hush puppies and frozen grapes
The alligator bites from Bayou Bob's shack near the Grandstand are divine! Get them with a side of hush puppies and some icy frozen grapes, and you have a fantastic meal.
Caramel apple in a bowl with cinnamon ice cream
This is a fair favorite, and I always stop for a bowl before I leave for the day. There's nothing better than crunchy apples, sweet caramel sauce, and spicy cinnamon ice cream to end the day.
Find this gem in the International Bazaar. They have HUGE woks they cook the noodles in, and you get good-sized portions for a great price. The flavor is exquisite, and you even get some veggies in there, too. It's a perfect meal at the Fair and a great break from all the fried food.
