400 miles for a curd! by Jon White
Mouth Trap Cheese Curds
My family of six travels 400 miles from KC each year to get our hands on these cheese curds. Nothing satisfies my soul like seeing all my kids devour the one thing I crave all year.
Tiny Tim Donuts
Or are they Tom Thumb? I don't know or care, as long as they're hot and I get a boat load of them.
I tried some last year for the first time, right next to the place that makes crepes. Insanely, far and away, the best gyro I've had in my life.
My wife and I crave these all year long: Sweet martha's cookies, deep fried pickles, roasted corn, honey ice cream, fried green tomatoes. Dang it, how am I supposed to make it another month before I get there!?!?!?!?!?!
47 Years of memories by Donna Sherlin
I have purchased memory blocks in the park by the Grandstand honoring my Mother, and my husband who have both passed but made many memories at the Fair.
Skyride from the Giant Slide to Machinery Hill
Riding the skyride, letting your feet swing, overlooking everything, and deciding what to see when you make your way back down. Cuddling, stealing a kiss, It doesn't get any better than that.
At this age the rides are too wild for me, BUT I get a thrill out of watching everybody else have a ball. Each year the rides are more wild and push it to the edge.I love the lights at night, it's like a trip to Las Vegas
Pork Chop on a stick, Mini Doughnuts, Cheese Curds from the food building, Potato Chips from Heritage Square, Funnel Cakes from Maachinery Hill, Italian Ice from International Market Square, The list grows larger every year with each new treat. I am a tradiionalist, Back to the basic list above. YUM YUM
4H exhibitor's top 4 list! by Rena
4H exhibitors only! Must have a 4H button to get in, but they are the best thing ever! Livestock exhibitor dance in the swine barn, general project dances in the 4H building. If you are a fellow exhibitor, you can't miss these!
Allergies in the Goat Barn
My friends show goats, and I'm always in the goat barn, but I have allergies. Oh well, its totally worth it!
Education Building, and other Free Stuff
Can't wait to go on another search for all the free stuff we can find with my friends this year! The printout from the state fair website is very helpful! Wait in line for an hour to spin a wheel! I hope I don't leave all my goodies in the 4H dorm again :(
I love washing my chickens at the State fair, and listening to people's comments "wow, look at her, she's washing a chicken!" Yes, chickens have to be clean for shows too.
50 years of state fair memories by Joan Ignaszewski
Ye Olde Mill My dad told me about this before I ever went to the fair, and it is an old standard and a great place to cool off on a hot day for a very reasonable price.
All the stage shows in Heritage Square. Brings me back to my youth. Miss the Jack De Johns though.
The aroma is the greatest and the taste is always wonderful.
One of the best foods at the fair which I never make at home. Yum....
