Fauna and food by Roger Parsons
We like to arrive early in the morning and tour the barns before breakfast. The handlers - young and old, are so dedicated to their animals, it is impressive every year.
Tom Thumb Donuts
And you have to watch the conveyor process of making them.
Okay, so it used to be a dime when I was a kid, but it is still a great treat along with your package of Tom Thumb Donuts.
The DNR pond
We can stand there and watch the fish for a mesmerizing 30 minutes or more.

Peach flavored Shaved Ice
Shaved ice by far the best at the fair - don't waste your time on the slushies. The booth on the corner of the coliseum is the best!
On the corner of the horse barn, don't forget your free cheese dipping sauce. The garlic pretzel is to die for!
Bow wow! It's a great snack and semi healthy for you! Don't forget the large crunch pickle to boot! On the corner of the beer garden
Axels on the corner of the food building. You won't be disappointed. The horseradish dipping sauce is amazing!

Honey Ice Cream
At the horticulture bldg. I heard about it for years but was skeptical, especially since I love chocolate ice cream. But with sunflower seeds I finally appreciate bees!
Only the ones in the food bldg. These have no breading so the taste of cheddar cheese is full on.
Ice Cream Shakes and Sundaes
In Dairy bldg. or by cows. The creamiest, it makes you want to kiss the cows!
If you miss Starbucks, this is the closest thing at the fair. By grandstand.

Corn on the cob
My absolute favorite must have item. Dipped in hot butter and salt and peppered!
Beer battered and fired with ketchup, nacho cheese, or ranch. I enjoy the nacho cheese and ketchup myself.
Pickle on a stick
Just a good ol classic pickle on a stick! Delish!
With ketchup! Cant beat that!
