It's a TRADITION! by DeDe

Category: Miscellaneous

  1. Simply Nuts
Do you remember seeing a woman and two teenagers laughing hysterically outside the coliseum several years ago? Husbands should remember to wear belts before holding out their hands for samples. I'm not sure who was more surprised-the vendor, the husband or the family!! It still brings LOTS of laughs!
  2. The Midway
Another helpful tip-Either bring a backpack or another method of holding on to all your valuables. Moms that try and minimize their belongings are lucky that the midway workers are so honest and will retrieve their wallets and money when they drop out onto the seats.
  3. You walk a lot at the fair
My son's girlfriend found out how serious we take the fair the first year she went with us. Comfortable shoes, a lot of stamina and knowing that you'll be looking at the back side of the mom for most of the day if you don't pick it up and move. This fair thing is once a year-we've got a lot to see!!!
  4. It's a family tradition
From the double stroller with 3 kids in it to everyone bringing a significant other, this has been a tradition for almost 20 years and we've doubled the people we bring.

Traditions at the fair by Angie M

Category: Family Fun

  1. Little Farm Hands
Kids get a hands on experience of being a farmer from feeding the animals to gathering food products. The kids even get a coupon at the end to shop in the "market"!
  2. Giant slide
It is all smiles as the family climbs to the top of the giant slide looks across the fair and sails down the slide with laughter and some screams too!
  3. Food
From cheese curds to french fries. The fair has never dissapointed anyone in our family. Kids love the milk shakes and it is a great way to cool them down.
  4. Animal barns
We love to stroll around the barns. Watch the cows chomping on hay, pointing out the largest pig we have ever seen, and admiring the beautiful horses.

  1. 4-H and FFA Kids with their Animals
So knowledgeable and proud to be showing the animals they've worked raise and care for.
  2. Dancing at the Bandshell
Can't help but smile when the area in front of the stage becomes the best dance floor in town. Twirling, spinning, laughing and smiling ensue when the bands take the stage.
  3. Sweethearts on the Midway
Warms your heart to see arms embracing your sweetie on one side and a giant stuffed bear in the other.
  4. Crop Art Demonstrator
Patience, perfection and pin point accuracy make watching the crop artist in action fascinating.

Kathleen's Fair Four by Kathleen

Category: Miscellaneous

  1. Sunday Before The Fair Starts
If you compete in baking, this is your day. Get there early, try to be first, but the same 2 ladies always beat me there. Somehow it is always chilly that morning, as we wait outside Creative Activities Building for the door to open. Oooh and aaah at what others have baked, talk about who won what last year. Next few days will be waiting to see if winners are up on website - did I win a ribbon? Excitement building because the FAIR is just a few days away.
  2. Food
Cheese curds -my all-time favorite, but so many other favorites too- diet is out the window for the duration. Corn fritters. Fudge puppy. Roasted corn. Cream puffs. Sweet Martha’s. Milkshakes. French Fries. Minnekabob. By the time I finish my old favorites, it's hard to think to try something new.
  3. After Dark
The fair after dark is magical- lights of the midway, sounds of music, great people watching - seems like the strangest people come out after dark. Even though it's crowded, it's always a happy crowd.
  4. Animal barns
Which do I like best? Sheep? Goats? Ducks? Chickens? Rabbits? Love the horse shows, especially when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are here.
