Potatoes, Potatoes, Potatoes!! by Cindy
YUMMMMMM!!! We go to the fair every year JUST FOR THESE POTATOES!!
Near the east entrance off of Snelling are the most wonderful, gooey, brownies in the world! Very rich - but oh...so very, very delicious!!
All the milk you can drink for, I think, a buck? Anyway...the milk booth is located near the Australian Potatoes. We indulge with milk AND potatoes! A great combination!!
We usually try to sample anything NEW on a stick each year! Sometimes....not so good - other times...we're pleasantly surprised!
Fauna and food by Roger Parsons
We like to arrive early in the morning and tour the barns before breakfast. The handlers - young and old, are so dedicated to their animals, it is impressive every year.
Tom Thumb Donuts
And you have to watch the conveyor process of making them.
Okay, so it used to be a dime when I was a kid, but it is still a great treat along with your package of Tom Thumb Donuts.
The DNR pond
We can stand there and watch the fish for a mesmerizing 30 minutes or more.
Wish I could List More Than Four! by Brenda
Love to listen to the wonderful high school bands! Thanks kids!
Crative Arts building
Such beautiful handiwork! It's a trade - my hubby spends extra time with me there, so I spend time with him at machinary hill!
Fine Arts building
Some facinating and unique paintings, photos, etc. Another place I like to spend a bit of time!
The coupon book
I've gotten some good deals in the past because of the book! I've also gone to a few places I might not have tried otherwise! It's worth it to purchase it!
best kept secrets at the fair by Lisa De Krey
Breakfasts at the Salem Lutheran Church stand. Mom always said "start your day with a good breakfast." It's not just good at Salem--it's GREAT! Tucked in the northeast corner of the fair, their mouth watering pancakes are THE BEST in the world. They’re made from scratch recipe will keep you coming back for more. CAUTION: highly addictive
Does FREE fit your budget?
Nothing is free anymore...but it is at the fair. My #1 State Fair Four is the free evening entertainment. I've sang along with Minnesota favorites Tonic Sol-Fa, laughed so hard my belly hurt at Sami Dare--hypnotist extraordinaire, enjoyed big name music artists and cheered on homegrown talent in the annual talent competition.
Get in line and buy the best milk shake at the fair. (pineapple is my favorite!) Enjoy your shake while watching the likeness of a Minnesota dairy princess being carved into an 80 pound block of butter. From National Geographic to state and local news, this attraction captures attention.
The annual milk run is held on a gorgeous Sunday morning on opening weekend of the fair. Residents come out to cheer you on and enjoy the beautiful neighborhoods surrounding the State Fair. If that's not good enough, your registration gets you a place in the race, a ticket into the fair, a t-shirt, a free milk shake and a variety of other free items.
