what I look forward to each year by Judi Bartlett

Category: Attractions & Exhibits

  1. butter heads
I don't know of any other state that does this quite like we do. Get a malt or cone and watch her carve away or see what she's already done.
  2. Ye Old Mill ride
The oldest ride still operating at the fair. Yes, the displays are cheesy, but who cares? Snuggle up to your honey, or take the kids and create a new tradition. Then get some hot fresh mini donuts- yes!!
  3. photo booth at the arcade
our family has done this annually for at least 30 years. A relatively cheap memento of the day. See how many people you can cram in the booth and how many fun poses you can come up with.
  4. the historical exhibit in Heritage Square
view the beginnings of the fair, get a free state fair button (from last year, but keep the collection going) great collection- then stop over to the newspaper museum and you can print your name on a real old time printing press, fold a paper hat, get the news of the day. Free press!

Not to be missed attractions by ValUSA

Category: Attractions & Exhibits

  1. Little Farm Hands
Kids LOVE this exhibit! This agricultural education exhibit is a mock up farm for kids. Children (ages 3-10) become farm hands at this free, hands-on exhibit as they are provided the opportunity to experience the agricultural process, beginning at the farm and ending at the market. Kids help with farm chores, collect goods to sell at the farmers market, and then spend their earnings on real products made from the farm at the grocery store.
  2. Home Depot Kids Workshop
The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.
  3. Fine Arts Building
Art from classical to strange. This annual art exhibition is a result of a juried competition. Participation is open to all living residents of Minnesota, and each may submit one work for consideration.
  4. Crop Art
See the amazing works of art in the Crop Art Gallery of the Ag-Hort-Bee building. Crop art involves the use of seeds instead of paints to create a work of art.
