Why you go to the fair - Food by T. Herbst
Australian Battered Potatoes
Sliced potatoes-battered and deep fried to perfection with cheese or ranch sauce on top. Or get it like me with both. Delicious!
Worlds greatest French Fries
The best french fries in the world. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Fantastic!
Pork Chop on a stick
Grilled and tender - wonderful!
Corn smothered in butter and then sprinkled with salt. How can you eat just one!
Drink Up! by Howard Salwasser
By far the biggest bang for your dollar bill. Mix and match if you like, or chug down whatever you prefer. Now only if someone can bring back a flavored milk stand.
Got a coupon? Know where the Visitor's Plaza is? They're right there.
Especially if it's free water, like at the Culligan booth near Gate 5. Also you can bring your own water in to the fair.
Genius. Pure genius this idea.
Hidden Must Eat Treasures by Matt Ringhofer
Stuffed Green Pepper
Green pepper stuffed with a mild yet tasty rice and beef concoction, smothered in a rich, smooth homemade tomato sauce all wrapped up in steamed perfection. Our family’s first stop! This stand looks like a giant green pepper.
Fresh, reasonable, yet tasty and satisfying. This taco stand offers simple varieties of tacos with FANTASTIC tomato salsa with a great zing to top it all off.
This is one of the best raspberry malts around. Located in the Dairy Building, these raspberry masterpieces offer a HEAPING scoop of whole fresh plump raspberries. A real treat!
Hot Dog on Stick (Not Pronto Pup, Not Corn Dog)
This tasty treat is lighter and smaller than a typical "corn dog" The simple breading wrapped around a plump hot dog makes for quite a surprise to those used to a bland and typically heavy corn dog.

Climbing the Fire Tower
I managed to attend the fair for 25+ years before discovering the fire tower outside the DNR building last year. Great view of the fairgrounds, plus a dude shows you how our forests were once protected by fire spotters with a compass and a walkie talkie.
State Fair Bingo
I make Bingo cards, hand them out to my fellow fair-goers, and see who can mark 5 spaces first. We're watching for things like, Favre Jersey, Guy with a mullet, lady yanking her kid by the arm, Rascal scooter, shirt with fresh food stain, kid on a leash
Before computer screen pixels were created, people had to make their own out of Minnesota-grown grains and seeds. And make them they did! The tradition of arranging seed and grain pixels into works of art continues today, and I cannot wait to see what crops up this year!
Baby animals being born
At the Miracle of Birth building. You may see a birth miracle that looks more like a bloody massacre, but if you can look at a day-old lamb without melting, you are not human.
