The best things at the fair are free- by Vicki H.

Category: Favorite Places

  1. Poultry barn
There is nothing that makes me smile more at the fair than going to visit the chicken barn - call me crazy but they make me laugh everytime - the ones with the wild feathers coming our of their heads like a fan - lots of attitude, very couture - they don't even know it!
  2. education building
The best freebies a the fair! Make sure you go home sporting your favorite schools backback.
  3. bandstands
great place to sit back and give your feet a rest and enjoy some great music.
  4. giant slide
Everyone can have a good time at the giant slide. Last year my 77year old mother-in-law was battling cancer climbed her way to the top and had a grin a mile wide on her face coming down. It was great to see her having so much fin. We are really going to miss her this year.

Kate's Free Entertainment Picks by KJones

Category: Favorite Places

  1. Grandstand Music
If you sit around in Carousel Park you can hear the show really well - and for FREE! I've heard a ton of bands this way..
  2. People Watching
This will help you enjoy the wide variety of people/hairstyles/fashion choices that the Fair has to offer. Some are a quite 'different' than you might expect. :)
  3. Daily Parade - 2 p.m.
The daily parade is a good chance to sit down and relax for a few minutes. Everyone crowds around the parade route, so if you want a curb spot - get there a few minutes early!
  4. Northwoods Lumberjack Show
This show is nearly the same every year, but for some reason I still love to watch. The competition is fun, and sometimes the guys aren't bad to look at either. ;)

Free, Cheap, and Good by Connie

Category: Food

  1. Free Culligan water
Always great bargain for any budget.
  2. Orange Pop
Last year there was an orange pop stand outside the food building that was cheaper than anywhere else.
  3. Free food samples
There are some booths selling kitchen appliances that offer free samples if you watch their pitch.
  4. Corn Fritters and Fried Green Tomato
These stands are near each other and make fried food at least sound a little healthy.
