In 2015, the Open Class livestock entries totaled more than 835 beef cattle; 1,097 dairy cattle; 820 rabbits; 770 swine; 1,058 sheep; 161 boer goats; 877 dairy goats; 177 llamas; and 22 stock dogs.
The open class livestock premium book and entry forms are available annually to view and print in early June. Information is also available by mail; contact the competition department and indicate which category you are interested in.
REGISTRATION: By entering online, entry and W-9 forms will be filled out electronically. Registration and payment for entries online will be available for all departments beginning the Monday following Father’s Day (June 20). Online registration will absolutely close on each department’s final entry closing date at 4:30 p.m. No late entries may be submitted via the online registration process. Entries may also be submitted via mail. Payment must be submitted at time of entry; if you do not pay, your entries are not accepted.

The open class poultry show will return to the 2016 Minnesota State Fair following the 2015 statewide cancellation of poultry exhibitions due to H5N1 avian flu. Some changes for this year: Shortening the length of time open class poultry is in the barn from eight days to four days; the rabbit show will be moved from the first weekend to the final weekend of the State Fair; and pigeons will show with open class rabbits. 4-H poultry and rabbits will remain in the first weekend.
These changes should alleviate some of the crowding issues experienced in the past, allow for growth in some entry classes, and be beneficial to the health and welfare of the birds by having a shorter stay away from home.
